Temperatures will take the plunge around Washington, D.C., this week, after 70-degree weather from this past weekend.
A few locations north and west of the city may even have a brief ground-whitening snow shower on Christmas Eve.
By Christmas Day, temperatures will be 40 degrees lower when compared to last Sunday. The high on Christmas Day is forecast to be in the 30s, but will start the day in the upper 20s to near 30 degrees.
Dry weather is forecast around the region from Christmas Day through Sunday. There is a slight chance of snow around New Year's Eve.
The cold will stabilize late in the week, with temperatures bouncing back to within a few degrees of normal Thursday into Saturday.
