Weather Underground midday recap for Saturday,December 28,2013
A cold frontal boundary extended from the Intermountain West to the
upper Midwest on Saturday, while a surge of moisture pushed across the
Gulf Coast and Southeast.
Flood warnings were issued across parts of the Southeast on Saturday as a
surge of moisture provided heavy rain to the region. Gulfport, Miss.,
reported a midday total of 2.03 inches of rain, while Mobile, Ala.,
reported a midday total of 1.87 inches of rain. The northern half of the
Eastern Seaboard stayed clear of wet weather on Saturday due to a high
pressure system over the Mid-Atlantic.
Meanwhile, a cold front stretched from Wyoming to Minnesota, as blizzard
warnings were issued across the northern tier of the country. Light
snow associated with this front moved over parts of Wyoming, North
Dakota and Minnesota, while below normal temperatures swept across the
region. Rolla, N.D., recorded a morning low of -7 degrees on Saturday,
while Langdon, N.D., recorded a morning low of -4 degrees. This system
also triggered gusty winds across the area, as Buffalo, S.D., recorded
wind speeds of 66 mph, while Baker, Mont., recorded wind speeds of 60
mph.
The West Coast avoided wet weather on Saturday as a ridge of high
pressure continued to build over the eastern Pacific. Temperatures
ranged between the 60s and 70s across the desert Southwest.
