Snowy conditions pushed across the northern Plains and upper Midwest on
Tuesday, while high pressure settled in over the Eastern Seaboard.
Heavy snow showers moved across the north central portion of the country
on Tuesday as winter weather advisories were issued in the northern
Plains and upper Midwest. Bayfield, Wisc., reported a midday total of
11.0 inches of snow, while Chisago, Minn., reported a midday total of
4.0 inches of snow. An arctic air mass continue to provide blustery
conditions to the area, as International Falls, Minn., recorded a
morning low of -32 degrees with a wind chill factor of -41 degrees.
To the east, scattered snow showers pushed across portions of the
Northeast, as the heaviest snow fell in northeastern Ohio, central
Pennsylvania and western New York. Gusty winds also moved through the
region, as Mt. Washington, N.H., recorded wind speeds of 61 mph. The
remainder of the Eastern Seaboard avoided stormy conditions as a cold
frontal boundary propagated eastward over the Atlantic.
Warm, sunny weather continued to persist from the southern Plains to the
desert Southwest as a ridge of high pressure settled in over the area.
The Pacific Northwest also avoided precipitation on Tuesday, although
temperatures ranged between the 30s and 40s across the Washington,
Oregon and Idaho.
