Its Night-Before-Christmas-like theme rings out but still delivers the forecast in a delightful marriage of wit and meteorology. Our users agree Lubbock's meteorologists have earned the right to laugh every now and then – in April, the town was named the Toughest Weather City in America, beating 63 other cities in a weather.com tournament.
This isn't the first time an NWS meteorologist has used a forecast discussion to communicate a thinly-disguised, alternative message. Back in October, as the country was gripped by a government shutdown, NWS Anchorage had an important message from the agency's employees.
During that same political event, NWS meteorologists earned the respect of the weather world when several employees from the Rapid City, S.D. branch walked to work, braving blizzard-like conditions from Winter Storm Atlas to provide an accurate forecast despite the government shutdown.
