The El Nino Myth-busting Episode

By: Dr. Marshall Shepherd , 11:26AM,GMT on October 22,2015

Record El Nino, Godzilla El Nino......These headlines have dominated for the last several months. El Nino is a significant climate-related event that affects weather patterns around the world through various teleconnections. Comparisons have rightfully been made with the strong 1997-1998 event. However, I find that there is a "ton" of misinformation out there about what it is and what happens because of it.

For this reason, we've invited Certified Consulting Meteorologist Jan Null (Golden Gate Weather Services) to the show. Jan is a former meteorologist with the National Weather Service and runs an outstanding El Nino and La Nina Resource website. Jan will help me debunk several myths about El Nino and provide a basic 101 on what it is (and isn't).

Be sure to watch Weather Geeks this Sunday at Noon ET (11 am CT, 10 am MT, 9 am PT) and tell a friend.

Be on the lookout for a fascinating show on Paleoclimate with Dr. Kim Cobb of Georgia Tech.
