Brief Wave of Chilly Air to Sweep Northeast US

A return to cooler conditions will expand across the northeastern United States to finish October.
An area of high pressure packing dry and much cooler weather settle eastward from the Midwest to the Northeast on Friday.

Drying Out and Cooling Down

According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski, "After a windy and mild Thursday in many areas, high pressure building into the area will bring lower temperatures for the final two days of October."
Winds will also subside and some sunshine will return on Friday into Saturday.

Conditions will be favorable for anyone going outside to enjoy a hayride and for trick-or-treaters. Trick-or-treaters may want to consider bringing along a jacket to stay warm.

Dry conditions will also prevail for Game 3 of the World Series between the New York Mets and the Kansas City Royals as the series shifts to Citi Field on Friday night. Those heading to the game should bring along a jacket as temperatures will be in the 50s F during the game.
A swath of rain will push eastward through the Central and Eastern states during the weekend and will be followed by milder conditions for much of the first half of November.

According to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski, "Rain will dampen spirits, along with high school and college football games from the upper Gulf Coast to the Great Lakes on Halloween."
On Sunday, the rain will quickly diminish to spotty showers in the Northeast. A shower may briefly dampen the New York City Marathon.
Those heading outside for any outdoor activities or an NFL game should bring a rain poncho, especially in the Southeast states, where a soaking rain is likely on Sunday.

"Polar air will be shut out of much of the eastern two-thirds of the nation for much of the first full week of November," Sosnowski said.
There is the likelihood that high pressure will stall off the Atlantic coast and allow for many days of mild conditions and some sunshine in the Eastern states.
"The opening week of November across the Northeast may feel more like late September in many areas as temperatures across much of the Northeast will be in the 60s," Pydynowski said. "Some areas may break into the 70s F for a day or two."
People in the South may have some more 80-degree weather.
High temperatures on a number of days could range between 10 and 15 degrees F above average.
