Storm to Bring More Flooding to Middle East Through Midweek

Following deadly flooding and thunderstorms across parts of the Middle East over the weekend, a slow-moving storm will continue to bring dangerous weather to the region through Thursday.
Daily showers and thunderstorms will continue from the Mediterranean coast of Israel, Palestine and Syria into Jordan, Iraq and northern Saudi Arabia.
Any thunderstorms can produce flash flooding, gusty winds and small hail. Areas that have yet to receive any rainfall could be impacted by dust storms due to gusty winds ahead of thunderstorms. The threat for dust storms will diminish as the week progresses due to the ongoing rainfall across the region.

Farther north, a soaking rain will fall from eastern Turkey into Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and northwest Iran. While widespread flooding is not a concern for these areas, some localized flooding can still occur.
An area of heavy rain and thunderstorms will combine to cause a high threat of flooding in parts of western Iran and eastern Iraq as the slow movement of this storm leads to several days of unsettled weather.

Each day through Thursday will feature rounds of locally heavy rainfall and occasional thunderstorms. Cities that could be impacted by dangerous flooding include Mosul, Erbil, Kermanshah, Kirkuk, Ilam, Kut and Amarah. Total rainfall through Thursday will average 50-100 mm (2-4 inches) with locally higher amounts.
While showers and thunderstorms will remain widespread from northern and eastern Iraq through western Iran and northward to Georgia from Friday through Sunday, the threat for any flooding will be localized.
A new storm system will approach from the Mediterranean Sea early next week bringing several days of unsettled weather and flooding back to areas from Israel and Syria to Iraq and Iran.
