One of the driest places on the planet is currently experiencing a vibrant flower bloom, making for a rare spectacle for those living in Chile's Atacama Desert.
The Atacama Desert is located in the north part of the country and barely receives any rain throughout the entire year, making it extremely difficult for any vegetation to grow.
"Rainfall is extremely hard to come by in northern Chile," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski said.
However, historic rainfall moved through the region earlier this year which lead to catastrophic flooding, but it also provided water for flower seeds that laid dormant for years.

People traveling to the area to view the spectacle will have until the early part of November before the flowers begin to die and the landscape returns to normal.

The Atacama Desert is one of the few spots in the entire world that experiences flower blooms of this nature.
A similar bloom occurs in the Mojave Desert of North America following a wet winter and early spring, causing the wildflower population to flourish.
