The Pittsburgh area will face a bout of soaking rain and gusty winds at midweek before dry weather settles back in to end the month.
Umbrellas and rain gear will be a necessity across southwestern Pennsylvania on Wednesday.
The arrival of a potent storm system, which has tapped into moisture from once-Tropical Rainstorm Patricia, will cause the most significant rainfall this month to pour down on Wednesday.
Major Travel Delays Wednesday for the Northeast
Rainfall will generally total 1-2 inches with locally higher amounts. Pittsburgh has not measured an inch from one rainfall event so far this month.
"Localized flooding is also possible in low-lying and poor drainage areas with the heavy rain over a short time period," stated AccuWeather Meteorologist Alyson Hoegg. That is especially true where leaves are covering storm drains. The combination of leaves and wet roads will also create slick conditions for motorists.

Winds will also howl on Wednesday with gusts of 30-40 mph. Such winds could easily toss around loose Halloween decorations. Gusts will even approach or reach 50 mph toward the Laurels and across northwestern Pennsylvania, heightening the risk of sporadic tree damage and power outages.

In the wake of the soaking rain, a shower or two will linger into Thursday morning as gusty winds usher in fresh cooler air.
The cool air will hang on through Friday and Saturday as an area of high pressure builds overhead. Clouds will be on the increase on Saturday, signaling the return of more rain. However, the rain should hold off until trick-or-treating Saturday evening.
