Midwest Faces Snow, High Wind and Freeze-Up Threat

Strong winds, plunging temperatures and a swath of snow will affect Thanksgiving travel into Tuesday over portions of the Midwest.
Motorists should prepare for slick travel on stretches of Interstate-39, I-43, I-74, I-80, I-88, I-90, I-94 and I-196.
Plunging temperatures will add to the hazards for motorists and those traveling by foot.
Initially, the snow from Monday will not stick to roads and sidewalks. However, as temperatures then plunge to below freezing, any wet or slushy areas will turn icy and slippery. Bridges and overpasses would be the first to turn slick.

As for Detroit, snow showers are in the offing at night with temperatures falling below freezing. Motorists and pedestrians should be on the lookout for areas of clear (black) ice.
The colder air will be ushered in by gusty winds, causing AccuWeather.com RealFeel® temperatures to plunge into the teens in many of the same communities set to receive snow.
The gusty winds can make for tricky handling when driving at high speed on the highways and can lead to flight delays at multiple airports in the Midwest and around the Great Lakes from Minneapolis to St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Buffalo, New York.
A couple of snow showers will linger into Tuesday across Michigan as all of the Midwest endures another chilly day. However, much less wind is forecast on Tuesday.
On the heels of this storm will be another weaker system that will bring nuisance snow for holiday travelers across the Upper Midwest on Wednesday.
Snowfall on the order of a coating to an inch or two will sweep from Minneapolis to Chicago and Indianapolis on Wednesday. Slippery spots are possible as far south as St. Louis, Louisville, Kentucky, and Cincinnati by Wednesday evening.

Enough snow could fall to cause slippery travel in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio, Detroit and Pittsburgh during Wednesday night.
