After December-like cold lingers into the start of the weekend around Philadelphia, temperatures will surge into the 50s on Sunday and well into the 60s on Monday.
As dramatic as the cold air plunged into the region early this week, it will leave this weekend.
People will be able to shed winter coats and boots for lighter-weight gear by Sunday afternoon.
Contributing to the warmup will be a storm with rain forecast to swing up from the Gulf of Mexico.
While the Philadelphia Marathon will begin in chilly conditions Sunday morning, the rain should hold off until the evening over much of the region. Winds will pick up from the south and increase to 10 to 14 mph. Rain may hold off for most of the NFL game between the Eagles and Titans at Lincoln Financial Field Sunday afternoon.
The rain can affect some early Thanksgiving travel on Sunday afternoon into Monday. Fog may accompany the mild, rainy weather at times. The combination of rain and fog may reduce visibility and cause travel delays on the highways and airports in the Northeast.
The air will cool closer to Thanksgiving, but not to the cold levels of this week. No major storms will affect the eastern third of the nation during the middle of next week.
