Dangerously cold temperatures will continue through the start of 2014, but the weekend will provide a bit of relief for the city.
Temperatures will hover around zero until Friday and those headed outdoors without proper clothing attire may be subject to frostbite and life-threatening conditions.
Overnight temperatures will plummet to around -10 degrees Wednesday and Thursday.
However, beginning Friday temperatures will begin to rise steadily through the weekend.
Friday's skies will be partly sunny but an accumulating snow shower will give the city its next chance for some snowflakes late Friday night into Saturday morning.
Minneapolis has a chance for 1-3 inches of snow Friday night, this snow could cover roadways and make for some slippery travel Saturday morning.
Those headed out on the roads over the weekend should use caution.

For the weekend, Saturday and Sunday will bring a break from the bitter cold, as temperatures rise into the mid-20s.
Even though the skies will be cloudy for both weekend days, the air will feel a bit warmer than it has been in recent days.
However, looking towards next week highs in the negatives will return once again.
