A major winter storm will unfold across the South Tuesday through Wednesday but will narrowly miss the Atlanta area.
Significantly colder air pouring into Atlanta Monday night will set the stage for the impending winter storm.
However, the storm track will be far enough to the south to prevent Atlanta from enduring the brunt of the storm. Only a bit of snow will graze Atlanta Wednesday night.
The best opportunity for the snow to leave an inch will be across the city's southern suburbs. A coating to no accumulation is expected in Atlanta and points northward.
The heaviest snow zone will focus on the corridor from southeastern Alabama to northeastern North Carolina.
Atlanta will not miss out on a two-day stretch of frigid weather with highs in the 30s expected for Tuesday and Wednesday.
