A lengthy stretch of dangerous cold will endanger residents in Detroit through Tuesday.
After an Alberta Clipper brought more snow to Detroit on Sunday and added to the city's already snowiest ever January total, additional snow showers will move through Sunday night.
There is concern for a heavier snow squall to also occur, mainly after midnight EST.
That snow squall could drop a fresh coating to an inch and dramatically reduce visibility. Howling winds will worsen the situation for motorists by blowing and drift snow that has already fallen.
The winds will also usher in one of winter's coldest air masses. Temperatures will drop to around 10 F by daybreak Monday, then continue to slowly fall through the single digits as the day progresses.
A record-breaking low of 10 below zero is expected Monday night with temperatures only recovering to the lower single digits on Tuesday.
