Temperatures are taking the plunge around Pittsburgh this week, after 70-degree weather from this past weekend.
Some locations may even have ground-whitening snow showers through Christmas Eve. Folks heading out should be prepared for slippery spots and delays.
Temperatures will be 40 degrees lower Tuesday and Wednesday when compared to last Sunday with high temperatures forecast to be within a couple degrees of 30.
Mainly dry weather is forecast around Pittsburgh from Christmas Day through Sunday. There is a slight chance of snow around New Year's Eve.
The cold will stabilize late in the week, with temperatures bouncing back to within a few degrees of normal Thursday into Saturday.
The warmth this past weekend has erased temperature departures of several degrees below normal for December. As a result, December is likely to finish up close to the normal mean temperature of 33 degrees.
November finished 3.6 degrees below the normal mean temperature of 43 degrees around Pittsburgh.
