WeatherWhys for August 23,2013 from accuweather.com

Hurricane Andrew was one of only three hurricanes in recorded history to strike the United States with Category 5 strength. When Andrew made its first landfall in South Florida during the early morning hours of Aug. 24, 1992, the National Hurricane Center in Coral Gables recorded a wind gust of 164 mph. The destruction Andrew left in its wake through the southern suburbs of Miami was catastrophic.
