As a tropical disturbance drifts westward along the upper Gulf Coast, drenching showers and thunderstorms will migrate westward toward Houston this weekend.
There is the potential for isolated incidents of urban flooding by Sunday as the system reaches the upper Texas coast and drifts inland.
Several inches of rain can fall with the system in a few locations, which can cause travel disruptions along the I-10 corridor and part of the I-45 corridor.
Much of the region is in need of rainfall. Only about 25 percent of normal rainfall has occurred in the Houston area since June 1.

Odds are against rapid development of this system, due to the close proximity to the coast and some disruptive winds aloft. Only if the system's forward speed to the west slows, would there be more time for significant strengthening and organization.
The feature started off as a low pressure area at mid-levels of the atmosphere, but was beginning to grow down to the surface. Tropical systems occupy the lower atmosphere.
