An intense heat wave spreading from the northern Plains through the Midwest will avoid Detroit, but effects from the warmth will bring potentially dangerous thunderstorms into Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning. The core of the heat will stay to the south and west of the city, but the warm, moist air will fuel disturbances on the heat's edge.
Though not all of the thunderstorms for the area will be severe, some could be destructive. The biggest threats with the storms will be torrential downpours and damaging, strong winds, but hail is also possible with the system.

Temperatures neared 90 on Monday, reaching 89 degrees. Tuesday's temperature reached only 83, under the influence of clouds and showers and storm.
Wednesday and Thursday should experience less humidity after the storms dissipate.
