Intense heat gripped Chicago on Tuesday, as temperatures soared to 96 degrees, matching the highest recorded temperature in the city all summer and falling only one degree short of the record for that day.
Temperatures cooled down on Wednesday, reaching 83 degrees. More cool weather is in store for the city on Thursday, as a northeast wind blows off the lake. The contrast will certainly be felt as highs fall about 10 degrees shy of the beginning of the week.
Despite the brief cooldown, summer temperatures are far from over for the Windy City.
More heat will return on Friday and into the holiday weekend. Friday and Saturday, temperatures will again soar into the low 90s. Sunday, the high will near 90.
Overall, however, the month of August has been 0.3 of a degree cooler than average.
