Storms to Return to Detroit as Labor Day Weekend Arrives

While Detroit got a break from thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday, additional storms are in the offing Friday into the Labor Day weekend.
The storms will keep intense heat over the Plains from blasting into the region, or at least limiting that heat to a day or two.
One cluster of storms could bring locally severe weather to parts of lower Michigan later Friday into Friday night. The storms are likely to target areas around Chicago and Milwaukee.

A few spots, especially north and west of Detroit could be hit with damaging wind gusts, large hail and flash flooding.
People spending time outdoors, especially the Michigan State Fair and on the lakes Friday through the weekend, should keep an eye out for rapidly changing weather conditions.
Most of the storms will occur during the late-afternoon and evening hours. However, there will be some exceptions. Even with the chance of storms, the vast majority of the weekend will be free of rain.

Sunday is looking to be the most volatile day of the holiday weekend, with the approach of a cool front possibly enhancing the intensity and number of showers or thunderstorms once again. Sunday is shaping up to be a day for thunderstorms throughout the Midwest region.
Conditions should clear on Monday. However, if the humidity is slow to drop off, there could be spotty thunderstorms before cool air takes hold.
