Benign weather is in the offing for the Pittsburgh area this weekend before the weather pattern turns wintry for the new week.
The dry and mild air set to close out the weekend in southwestern Pennsylvania is not a sign of things to come for the new week.
Chilly weekend, snow next week, but no big storm
The impending change in the weather will come at the hands of a storm arriving from the Midwest.
The storm will reach the area on Monday with snow that will eventually become mixed with rain.

"A heavy burst of snow in the morning could coat roads and create areas of slick travel," AccuWeather Meteorologist Jordan Root said. "That is especially true to the east in the Laurel Mountains."
The arrival of the snow will start a prolonged stretch of snow showers that will keep streaming into southwestern Pennsylvania through much of the week. The daily snow showers will coat Pittsburgh at times and lead to slick travel.

The persistent snow will make travel westward through the Laurels treacherous due to snow-covered roads and reduced visibility. Substantial accumulations are expected before the week is over, which will be a boon for the ski industry.
Accompanying the snow will be progressively colder air with brisk winds entering the picture by midweek. Another shot of arctic air will plunge into the area next weekend.
