A blast of cooler air will make its way to Germany this week, setting the stage for wintry precipitation.
The arrival of this cooler air will allow for wintry showers across central and northern Germany on Wednesday and Thursday.

These showers will generally be brief and snow is not expected to accumulate to more than a coating in any given location.
Areas from Hamburg to Frankfurt, Berlin and Dresden are all at risk for these wintry showers. The showers will be a mix of rain and snow during the day with mainly snow showers at night.
Nighttime low temperatures will fall below zero C (32 F) across the region. As a result, snow may coat roadways and lead to slippery travel.

A southward dip in the jet stream is responsible for the blast of cooler air.
Farther south, Stuttgart and Munich are expected to remain dry on Wednesday and Thursday. High temperatures both days will be near 5 C (40 F) with overnight lows near -1 C (30 F).
It will remain chilly across all of Germany on Friday, but drier air will bring an end to any wintry showers.
The chill will linger through the weekend across northern Germany, while milder air will arrive in the south. Temperatures will climb to 7-10 C (45-50 F) in the region.
