Brush Fire in Malibu Now 35 Percent Contained After Scorching Seven Acres

February 25,2016

A brush fire northwest of Los Angeles in Malibu is now 35 percent contained after burning about seven acres early Thursday morning, according to Los Angeles County Fire officials.
Inspector Randall Wright says crews are keeping watch for hot spots as they surround the smoldering fire that broke out shortly before 3 a.m. Thursday off Mulholland Highway near Decker Canyon, not far from the Ventura County line.
Wright says no evacuations have been ordered but plans are in place to get residents out if the flames flare up again. In the early stages of the fire, it was reported that voluntary evacuations were in effect.
KNX Radio reports evacuation plans are in place for kids at Camp JCA Shalom and Camp Bloomfield, but no evacuations have been ordered.
Light winds were assisting helicopter crews making water drops over the fire burning in steep, inaccessible terrain about three miles north of Pacific Coast Highway. Several roads are shut down.
Low humidity levels may be fueling the flames, said weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce.
Firefighters from Ventura County have been called to assist.
