After a surge of springlike warmth to start the weekend, high temperatures in Boston will trend downward into the start of the new week before a winter storm arrives at midweek.
Residents should not get used to the warmth that had Saturday feeling more like April than the middle of February.

The passage of two cold fronts will cause high temperatures to trend lower into the start of the new week.
Sunday will still be mild for this time of year, just not as warm as Saturday. Temperatures will be returned to more seasonable levels on Monday. A high near 40 degrees Fahrenheit is more typical this time of year.

Attention will then turn toward a potent storm set to emerge from the southern Plains and track to the eastern United States at midweek.

Latest indications point toward mostly rain and potentially gusty winds for the city, which can still lead to slower travel for commuters and airline passengers, as the storm tracks west of the Appalachian Mountains. The risk of minor coastal flooding will be monitored. It is possible for the rain to start as a wintry mix, especially in the northern and western suburbs.
However, the exact movement and strength of the storm will determine the type of precipitation for the Boston area. A track closer to the coast could bring more extended period of wintry weather to the suburbs. A path offshore could lead to snow for more of the region.
