After the midweek system accompanied by snow exits the area, frigid air will pour in.
Despite the sun on Friday and Saturday, highs will be in the single digits. Low temperatures late week are all expected to be below zero.
The last time temperatures in Minneapolis fell to below zero in December was in 2010.
The coldest night will be Friday, as overnight temperatures will be 7 below zero F.
Temperatures will warm a little back into the teens for Sunday with another chance of snow for the area.

A reinforcing shot of colder air comes Monday with daytime highs in the single digits with nighttime temperatures dropping again to below zero overnight, as Tuesday's temperature is expected to jump up to 15 F.
At midweek, bitter cold will continue. It is expected be 10 degrees during the day and again below zero at night Wednesday.
