Hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin does not officially start until June 1, but the 1952 season got off to an extremely early beginning with the development of the Groundhog Day Tropical Storm. The storm formed in the northwestern Caribbean Sea before making landfall in South Florida, setting the record for the earliest landfalling tropical cyclone for the United States.
