Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,February 4,2016

Rain and high elevation snow will move over the Northern Rockies on Thursday, while rain and snow diminishes for the East Coast.

A strong low pressure system will continue advancing northeastward from the Great Lakes and into eastern Canada, allowing the associated cold front to slowly push eastward and offshore from the East Coast. Moisture feeding the system from the Gulf of Mexico will allow for showers and thunderstorms to persist for the Southeastern states. Expect another rainy day for northern Florida through the Carolinas. Meanwhile, the back side of this system will allow for a few scattered snow showers to persist across the Great Lakes, but significant snowfall is only expected along the downwind shores of the Great Lakes, Cooler air from Canada will likely pour into the Eastern states, pushing high temperatures down to 10 to 15 degrees below normal.

Out West, a trough of low pressure that brought rain and high elevation snow to the Pacific Northwest moves eastward and brings snow to the Intermountain West and Northern Rockies. Expect wintry weather to develop across Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, and into northern Colorado. Heaviest snowfall is likely to reach 12 inches at highest elevations of Idaho and western Montana.
