Weather Underground Forecast for Monday,February 15,2016

A low pressure system will bring a variety of precipitation types to the eastern third of the country on Monday, while a ridge of high pressure keeps temperatures warm across the Southwest.

A frigid air mass will remain in place for portions of the upper Midwest and the Northeast. An area of low pressure will trek northeastward across the Deep South, the Tennessee Valley and the Ohio Valley. This system will draw warmer air from the Gulf of Mexico, which will generate multiple types of precipitation across the eastern third of the country. Rain and thunderstorms will impact areas from the lower Mississippi Valley to the Southeast. There will be a chance of severe thunderstorms in southeast Louisiana, southern Mississippi, southwest Alabama and the western edge of the Florida Panhandle. These storms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. A mixture of heavy rain, freezing rain and snow will impact the Tennessee Valley, the Mid-Atlantic, the Ohio Valley and New England. Prolonged heavy rain could lead to flash flooding from northeast Alabama to Pennsylvania. Light to moderate snow showers will also develop northwest of the low pressure system across the upper Midwest.

Meanwhile, a wave of low pressure will push eastward across the Intermountain West and the Plains. Rain and snow will affect the northern and central Rockies. A mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow will also spread eastward across the northern and central Plains, as well as the middle and upper Mississippi Valley.

Additionally, a Pacific system will usher moderate to heavy rain and high elevation snow over northern Oregon and Washington. Warm and dry conditions will persist across the Southwest on Monday.
