Rain Returns to Italy, Western Balkans This Weekend

After a brief pause from wet weather, another storm will bring unsettled weather from Spain to Italy and the western Balkan Peninsula this weekend.
A storm will track across southern Spain Friday, before entering the Mediterranean Sea Saturday then moving into Italy later in the weekend.
The heaviest rainfall will be focused across northern and western Italy on Saturday before spreading into areas from southern Croatia through northern Albania on Sunday.
While widespread flooding is not expected, rainfall will be heavy enough to cause localized flooding, especially since rainfall is well above normal across this entire region so far this year.

The above-normal rainfall combined with snowmelt in the higher elevations will lead to dangerously high river levels from this weekend into early next week across the entire region.
While the storm will leave Spain early in the weekend, lingering showers will dampen both Saturday and Sunday. A shot of cooler air will press southward into Spain on Sunday and linger into early next week.

Rain and snow showers along with unseasonable chill will prevail through Friday in the eastern Balkans and Ukraine. Milder air will return in time for the weekend along with sunshine as high pressure briefly dominates the region.
Meanwhile, midweek warmth will be erased by this weekend from Paris to Berlin and Warsaw as colder air plunges southward from Scandinavia.
