"Seattle averages about six inches of snow each season," said weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce. "However, significant snow isn't guaranteed each winter as we saw last season, when just over a half inch of snow was recorded. The last major snowstorm to strike Seattle was in January 2012 when 9.6 inches was measured over four days."

Seattle's suburb of Kirkland received three inches of snow before Friday morning's rush-hour commute, according to local reports. North of Seattle, nearly four inches of snow have been reported near the town of Arlington.
