This week brought wintry conditions to numerous countries. In the United States, a travel-impairing ice storm made for treacherous conditions on Thursday and Friday as it swept the Southern Plains. Hundreds of thousands of people were without power as of Friday afternoon.
The U.K. and Ireland also suffered staggering power outages when a storm delivered sustained winds as high as 80 kph(50 mph), on Thursday.

How to Survive a Power Outage During an Ice Storm
Earlier in the week, a powerful winter storm dumped as many as 2 feet of snow on Alberta, Canada. Gusty winds resulted in even higher snow drifts, setting a wintry scene for the region.
In contrast, ominous fog filled the Grand Canyon last week, in a rare, fall-like spectacle.
