Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,December 7,2013
A cold frontal boundary will extend from the Gulf of Mexico to the coast
of the Carolinas on Saturday, while a separate cold front will trek
southward over the West Coast.
A cold front will trek over the Southeast on Saturday, as an active
weather system will begin to wind down along the central and eastern
thirds of the country. Freezing rain will still be possible across parts
of Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee and Kentucky as a warm, muggy air mass
interacts with this frontal boundary. Rain and thunderstorms can also be
expected across a handful of states in the Southeast. Temperatures will
remain 10 to 30 degrees below normal across the region on Saturday.
To the north, a high pressure system along central Canada will drive a
cold air mass over the Great Lakes. This system will provide light snow
showers to parts of the upper Midwest, and is also expected to trigger a
lake effect snow event across parts of the Northeast. The northern tier
of the Ohio Valley will avoid precipitation throughout the day.
A cold front will dive southward along the West Coast on Saturday. Due
to below normal temperatures along the western third of the country,
snow levels are expected to drop below 3000 feet in northern California
and the desert Southwest. The heaviest snow will likely fall along the
central Sierra Nevadas, while moderate to heavy snow showers will also
impact the central Rockies on Saturday.
