An area of low pressure will transition across the Northeast on Sunday, while a separate system develops over the upper Mississippi Valley.
A fast moving low pressure system will shift northeastward across the Northeast and southeast Canada. This system will pack strong, gusty winds and light to moderate precipitation. A mixture of rain and snow can be expected across the northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England. By Sunday afternoon, this system will drift over the western Atlantic and southeast Canada.
Another system will move east southeastward from the northern Plains to the northern Ohio Valley. A swath of moderate to heavy snow will develop along the northern periphery of this low pressure area, affecting much of the upper Midwest, northern Pennsylvania and western New York. Rainy conditions can be expected along the southern periphery of this system, stretching from northern Illinois to the central Ohio Valley. In addition, arctic air will settle in across the northern tier of the country, extending from eastern North Dakota to New England.
A dry weather pattern will prevail across most areas west of the Mississippi River. Temperatures will rise 5 to 15 degrees above normal over much of the Southwest. A Pacific frontal system will bring chances of light rain and high elevation snow to parts of Pacific Northwest, the northern Great Basin and the upper Intermountain West on Sunday.
