In the wake of a storm that brought heavy snow to the New York City area on Thursday, colder air moving in will cause a freeze-up of wet and slushy areas.
Temperatures will dip to record-challenging levels Friday morning. The record of 6 F was set in 1872.
Temperatures will dip to frigid levels Friday morning. Flight disruptions due to rerouted or displaced aircraft and crews may continue into Friday.
Motorists and pedestrians should be prepared for leftover areas of ice into the start of the weekend.
The colder air and recent snowstorm will slow the runoff from the midweek thaw in the short term.

The cold plunge that follows the storm will precede noticeably milder conditions next week that will allow considerable melting of the snow in the region.
