Boston: Milder Weather to Follow Cold Start to Weekend

In the wake of a storm that brought heavy snow to the southern New England coast on Thursday, milder air will follow by next week around Boston.
Temperatures will dip to frigid levels Friday morning. Flight disruptions due to rerouted or displaced aircraft and crews may continue into Friday.
Motorists and pedestrians should be prepared for leftover areas of ice into the start of the weekend.
The colder air and recent snowstorm will slow the runoff from the midweek thaw in the short term.

The cold plunge that follows the storm will precede noticeably milder conditions next week that will allow considerable melting of the snow in the region.

A pattern change will begin this weekend and get into full swing next week. The pattern will lock out invasions of arctic air.
While conditions far from a heat wave are forecast next week, temperatures will trend to above normal next week with highs forecast to average near 40 F. Some chilly nights are still anticipated.
Area rivers will have to be watched for possible ice jams with the upcoming milder weather forecast starting next week.
Daytime highs above freezing with nighttime lows below freezing without heavy rain will be the best way to get rid of the snow cover with minimal problems.
Until all of the snow is gone, there will be issues with patchy black ice during the nighttime and early morning hours.
