Tuesday Snow, Polar Plunge Headed to Boston

Monday's milder high in Boston is not a sign of things to come with the return of snow and frigid air on the horizon.
Monday is shaping up to be a breezy and milder day in Boston with temperatures set to soar to around the 40-degree mark.
However, the polar vortex is sinking southward and will cause noticeably colder air to sweep in for Monday night and Tuesday. About 20 degrees will separate Monday's high from Tuesday's.
As the colder air sweeps in, a snow shower or two will cross the Boston area Monday afternoon.
Residents will not just be bundling up later Tuesday, but will also be clearing snow. An Alberta Clipper at the leading edge of the arctic blast will spread a band of snow from the Ohio Valley to the mid-Atlantic on Tuesday. The snow will spread to southern New England late in the day.

Cape Cod could receive more than 3 inches if the snow continues past Tuesday evening.
While heavier amounts will fall towards Cape Cod, amounts on the order of a coating to an inch are expected in Boston.
AccuWeather.com meteorologists will continue to monitor the storm for the possibility of the heavier snow band developing closer to the city.
A coating to an inch of snow is still enough to turn sidewalks and roads slippery, especially toward and after dark. Airline passengers should prepare for possible flight delays.

Some of the snow could also get blown around by the gusty winds developing on the backside of the clipper, further reducing visibility.
