Weather Underground midday recap for Sunday,January 19,2014
Weather across the western half of the country remained relatively calm
on Sunday, while a cold frontal boundary moved over the Eastern
Seaboard.
A cold front extended from Pennsylvania to Florida and across the Gulf
of Mexico on Sunday as snowy weather moved over the Northeast. Winter
weather advisories were issued in upstate New York, while snow showers
also moved across Pennsylvania and New England. Allegheny, Pa., reported
a midday total of 1.70 inches of snow, while Washington, Pa., reported a
midday total of 1.50 inches of snow. Spotty showers also moved over
central Florida on Sunday as the frontal boundary moved off of the
southeastern coast. Perry, Fla., reported a midday total of 0.30 inches
of rain.
A separate cold front dipped southward from central Canada and moved
into the northern tier of the U.S. Very cold, blustery conditions
accompanied this system, while light snow fell in northern Minnesota.
The central and southern Plains stayed clear of precipitation due to
high pressure over the region.
The western half of the country remained very dry on Sunday, while high
pressure brought relatively warm temperatures to California. Santa
Maria, Calif., recorded a midday high of 75 degrees, while San Fernando,
Calif., recorded a midday high of 73 degrees.
