Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,January 19,2014
A cold frontal boundary will extend from the northern Plains to the
upper Midwest on Sunday, while a ridge of high pressure will continue to
build over the West Coast.
A cold front will usher cold, blustery conditions and snowy weather
across the north central portion of the country on Sunday. Widespread
snow showers will move over the northern Plains, the upper Midwest and
the Great Lakes. A low pressure system along the eastern portion of the
cold front will drive snowy weather across the Mid-Atlantic and the
Northeast, as heavy snow will be possible in upstate New York and
northern New England. The central and southern Plains will stay clear of
wet weather due to a high pressure system over Texas. An onshore flow
from the Gulf of Mexico will bring light showers to central and eastern
Gulf Coast and parts of the Southeast on Sunday.
High pressure will also build over the Great Basin, which will continue
to initiate a Santa Ana wind event over California. Santa Ana winds will
push winds offshore, which will keep humidity levels across the state
very low. In turn, this will prolong the drought across California and
increase fire danger. The remainder of the West Coast will also avoid
precipitation due to a ridge of high pressure over the eastern Pacific.
