Weather Underground Forecast for Sunday,January 5,2014
A strong winter storm will continue to plow through the nation on
Sunday, allowing for extremely cold air to continue spreading across the
Plains, Midwest, and into the Eastern states. A low pressure system
north of the Great Lakes continues pushing a strong cold front
southeastward stretching from the Great Lakes through the Midwest and
into the Mississippi River Valley. The southern end of this cold front
will bring some freezing rain and snow showers to parts of Oklahoma and
far northern Texas before it moves into the Lower Mississippi River
Valley. Heaviest snow showers with this system are expected over the
Midwest from Missouri through Ohio on Sunday. Snowfall totals from 8 to
10 inches are possible for parts of Missouri, 6 to 8 inches likely for
parts of Illinois and Indiana, and 5 to 6 inches possible for parts of
Ohio.
To the north of this cold front, a strong Arctic airmass will continue
spreading across the northern Plains, upper Midwest and into the Eastern
Valleys. Temperatures will continue plummeting to 20 to 30 degrees
below normal with highs around 20 degrees below zero across North Dakota
and northern Minnesota, with wind chill values ranging form 40 to 60
degrees below zero. Wind chills at 50 degrees below zero can cause
exposed skin to freeze within 5 to 10 minutes. Please take caution and
cover up when outdoors.
