Radar imagery indicates heavy snow was falling near Lafayette, Ind. around 3:30pm on Saturday, January 18, 2014.
Per Indiana State Police, a multi-vehicle accident occurred on Indiana Highway I-65, near mile marker 174 at approximately 3:30 pm ET Saturday.
The accident involved multiple vehicles and tractor trailers. Pictures indicate that one vehicle did catch on fire.
The total number of vehicles and passengers involved in the crash is unknown at this time. There are no reported fatalities, and injuries are minor so far.
Police Officers are on scene diverting traffic away from the area in both directions. The Indiana Department of Transportation website indicated numerous crashes between Exits 45 and 55 on I-65, with all lanes blocked.
Weather observations within Lafayette, Ind. at the time of the crash indicate as much as four inches of snowfall. Winds were blowing out of the southeast at nine miles per hour. Due to the snowfall and fog in the area, visibility was reduced to three-quarters of a mile.
