Rounds of locally heavy rain turned deadly across southern France and northern Italy over the weekend.
At least three people have died due to the flooding, as more than a month's worth of rain fell in just days.
Nice, France, the population vacation destination and home to around 1 million, recorded 146 mm (5.76 inches) of rain since Thursday. The normal monthly rainfall in January is just 69 mm (2.72 inches).
Thousands of homes were left without power following the flooding over the weekend. Meanwhile, rescuers were forced to airlift more than 150 people to safety.

Poujoulat, Pool)The storm responsible for the recent flooding in southern France and northern Italy has shifted eastward as the heaviest rain is now falling across central Italy and western portions of the Balkan Peninsula.
Locally heavy rainfall can total 50-100 mm (2-4 inches) across central Italy as well as from southern Slovenia through Albania.

This rainfall will likely cause flooding problems while also increasing the threat for mudslides.
Drier weather is expected across the region on Wednesday with just some scattered showers.
Another storm system will take a nearly identical track from Thursday into Saturday which could renew flooding threats from southern France through the Balkans.
