Buffalo, N.Y., will be battered by high winds and the risk of coastal flooding later Thursday into Friday.
As the freshwater fury takes shape, southerly winds will increase during the day Thursday.
By the middle of Thursday night, gusts from the south and southwest can reach 50 to 60 mph.
As winds swing around to more of a west to southwest direction late Thursday night into Friday, water from Lake Erie will be driven toward Buffalo and the potential for flooding along the lakeshore will increase.
Winds will be strong enough to down tree limbs and power lines and may cause minor property damage.
Be sure to secure loose items around your yard, such as trash cans, recycling bins and Halloween decorations.

Travel along I-90 and I-190 will be especially challenging.
The high winds will cause problems for high-profile vehicles and can be dangerous for any vehicle traversing the high bridges over the Niagara River.
