PHOTOS: April snow buries spring blooms this weekend

An Alberta Clipper system brought winterlike conditions to parts of the Great Lakes and Northeast for the first weekend of April.
The storm system blanketed emerging spring gardens with anywhere from a dusting to over half a foot of snow in some areas.
Just two days after temperatures in the 70s and 80s were reported in locations such as Philadelphia, New York City and Washington D.C., temperatures struggled to get out of the 30s on Sunday morning in those cities.
Syracuse, New York, saw highs in the mid-60s on Friday, but residents in the region woke up Sunday to around six inches of snow and highs in the 20s. The city has already received more snow this month than it did for December.

"The snow started Saturday morning across the Great Lakes, blanketing western Michigan with upward of 6 inches of snow," AccuWeather Meteorologist Ed Vallee said. "Snow moved eastward Saturday night into Sunday morning, with the highest amounts found across the higher elevations of northern Pennsylvania, the southern tier of New York as well as the higher elevations of northern Connecticut, northwest Rhode Island, and interior Massachusetts."
The majority of the highest snowfall amounts found in New York and Pennsylvania ranged from 3-6 inches, while some areas in New England saw as much as 6-8 inches, Vallee added.

With the snow came travel concerns, as there were squalls that dramatically reduced visibility and threatened travelers on major roadways, including around Syracuse.
Gusty and damaging winds were also attributed to the storm, and utilities throughout the East listed tens of thousands of customers without power Sunday morning.
A wind gust of 64 mph was recorded at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that the pedestrian sidewalk of the George Washington Bridge was closed due to adverse weather.
Several partial building collapses were reported amid strong winds in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx, emergency management officials said. There were no reports of injuries. In southwest Philadelphia, one man was injured when a building partially collapsed, according to 6ABC.
