Scores of people were injured Wednesday after a powerful earthquake rocked Myanmar.
The temblor, which was also felt in India and Bangladesh, occurred 74 kilometers (46 mi) southeast of Mawlaik, Myanmar, the United States Geological Survey reported. It struck at 7:25 p.m. local time Wednesday (9:55 a.m. EDT Wednesday).
Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, and Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, were reported safe after the quake was felt in the eastern Indian state of Assam, where they were visiting, the Associated Press reported.
There was no word about injuries but Reuters reported that at least 50 people were injured as they fled buildings in Bangladesh.
The temblor caused cracks to develop in buildings in Guwahati, India, NDTV reported. Railway and electrical service also was disrupted as a result.
Hot weather may affect any relief efforts as high temperatures are expected to rise to around 40 C (100 F) for the next several days, AccuWeather meteorologists said.
The earthquake occurred during the country's celebration of Thingyan, the New Year Water Festival, similar to other celebrations across Asia.
