Weather Underground Forecast for Saturday,March 5,2016

A plume of moisture will bring impacts to the West Coast on Saturday, while a low pressure system transitions across the Midwest.

Several waves of low pressure will move onshore over the West Coast. These waves of low pressure will be accompanied by a plume of moisture, which will result in moderate to heavy rain across central and northern California, as well as the Pacific Northwest. The heaviest rain will likely develop along western facing slopes across central and northern California, where 2 to 5 inches of rain will be possible on Saturday. Flash flood watches are in place for parts of northwest California and the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. High elevation snow will also be measured in the feet for the Sierra Nevada and the Cascades. Winter storm watches are in place for the Sierra Nevada. High wind warnings are also in place across northern California and southern Oregon.

Meanwhile, a low pressure system will transition southeastward from the upper Mississippi Valley to the Mid-Atlantic. This system will usher light to moderate snow over the upper Midwest, while a mixture of rain and snow will affect the Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic. A cold frontal boundary stretching southwestward will generate isolated showers and thunderstorms across the southern Plains.
