A potent storm will move out of the Rockies in the middle of the week and bring a renewed flood threat to the southern Mississippi Valley.
"March will go out like a lion as thunderstorms roar across the middle part of the country midweek," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Tom Kines said.
This storm will have widespread impacts across the central states, bringing rain and severe weather to the central Plains and Mississippi Valley, as well as the chance for snow in the northern Plains and Upper Midwest.
After the storm unleashes a fresh round of cold and snow over the Pacific Northwest and the Rockies, it will intensify as it moves out onto the Plains.
Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico will begin to stream northward on Wednesday, with rain and storms developing in the morning hours across eastern Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
Moderate to major river flooding is still being reported at many river gauges in this area and additional heavy rainfall is likely going going to make matters worse.
The Ouachita River at Monroe, Louisiana and the Boeuf River near Fort Necessity, Louisiana are still at major flood stage. Residents near the area should take necessary precautions to protect lives and property from flooding.
In addition to the heavy rain and flood threat, severe weather is also going to be a hazard to contend with on Wednesday.
Storms capable of producing damaging winds and hail can be expected from Iowa through Kansas and Missouri and into Oklahoma. Farther south, through Arkansas and Louisiana, the main threat will be flooding rainfall. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
By Thursday, the center of the storm will be lifting northeast through the Great Lakes, with an elongated cold front stretched south across the eastern half of the country.
