Weather Underground Forecast for Thursday,March 24,2016
A strong low pressure system will transition across the Midwest on Thursday, while a Pacific cold front moves over the Northwest.
A robust area of low pressure will move northeastward from the middle Mississippi Valley to the eastern Great Lakes. This system is expected to bring a mixture of heavy rain, freezing rain and snow to the upper Midwest, Upstate New York and New England. Winter storm warnings are in place for Wisconsin and Michigan, while winter weather advisories are in effect for parts of New York. Winter storm watches are also in place for northern Maine in anticipation of wintry weather. A cold frontal boundary associated with this system will stretch south southwestward across the middle Mississippi Valley, the central Plains and the western Gulf Coast. As this frontal boundary transitions east northeastward, it will collide with warm and humid air from the Gulf of Mexico. This interaction will result in strong to severe thunderstorms for parts of the Deep South and the Tennessee Valley. Severe thunderstorms are forecast to impact south central Kentucky, Tennessee, northeast Mississippi, Alabama and northwest Georgia. These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, dangerous straight line winds and isolated tornadoes. Showers and thunderstorms will also affect the interior Mid-Atlantic and the Southeast.
Out west, an area of low pressure will dig southeastward across western Canada and the northern high Plains. A cold frontal boundary extending southwestward will produce light to moderate rain and high elevation snow across the Pacific Northwest, the upper Intermountain West and the northern Plains. High pressure over the eastern Pacific will bring dry weather to the Southwest and the Great Basin.
