A trough of low pressure will make its way across the Intermountain West on Tuesday, while a wave of low pressure shifts quickly across the Midwest.
A Pacific system will move slowly eastward across the upper Intermountain West. This system will be responsible for generating moderate to heavy snow across the northern and central Rockies. Winter storm watches are in place for western Colorado and southeast Wyoming. Winter weather advisories are also in place for western Wyoming. Snow accumulations could reach 1 foot across portions of central Wyoming. A mixture of rain and snow will spill out across the northern Plains by Tuesday afternoon and evening. Low elevation rain is also expected for upper Intermountain West, the Great Basin, the Pacific Northwest and northern California. Most of the Desert Southwest will stay clear of wet weather as high pressure rebuilds over the eastern Pacific.
Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will transition quickly eastward from the upper Midwest to New England. A mixture of rain, freezing rain and snow will spread across the upper Mississippi Valley, the upper Midwest, the northern Mid-Atlantic and New England. Southern Wisconsin will be at greatest risk for freezing rain on Tuesday. Snow accumulations are forecast to range between 4 to 8 inches for western Michigan and Upstate New York.
High pressure will influence a dry weather pattern from the southern Plains to the Southeast.
