Wind, Rain from Henri to Target Western Europe

Once-Tropical Storm Henri will track across the north Atlantic Ocean, eventually interacting with a larger storm system and losing tropical characteristics. However, the addition of Henri's moisture to this large storm system will result in the threat for heavy rainfall from northern Spain into France next week.
Prior to reaching Europe, Henri brushed by Newfoundland on Saturday bringing wind gusts between 30-40 mph (50-65 kph) to Cape Race. However, the most significant impacts remained offshore.
On Sunday and Monday, Henri will race across the northern Atlantic while interacting with a large low pressure system that will target northwest Spain by Tuesday.

Rain, some heavy, will become a more widespread threat on Tuesday night and into Wednesday with downpours possible from southern Britain and Ireland through western France and northern Spain.
After one round of rain during the beginning of the week, moisture from Henri will spread a heavier round of heavy rain across the above-mentioned areas during the middle of the week. The hardest hit areas are expected to be in northwestern Spain and southern Ireland and southwestern England.
Rain amounts of 2-4 inches (50-100 mm) are expected in northwest Spain and 1-3 inches (25-75 mm) in southern Ireland and England.
Outside of these areas, rainfall will be widespread across northwestern England, though rainfall will largely be less than an inch (25 mm).

In addition to the locally heavy rainfall, strong wind gusts will plague northwestern Europe as the remains of Henri spin near the coast.
The strongest wind gusts will be found in the typically windy areas from the southern coast of England and northwestern France to the northwest tip of Spain.
These areas are expected to be blasted by wind gusts as high as 75 mph (120 kph). The most likely location for wind this strong will be right along the coast in areas such as Plymouth, England, Brest, France and Ferrol, Spain. A little further inland, wind gusts will top out closer to 50 mph (80 kph) in places such as Paris and London.
The peak of the wind is expected to come Wednesday into Thursday. This is when isolated power outages are expected along with down tree limbs. Strong wind gusts could bring travel delays on the ground and through the air.
