The
1938 hurricane made landfall at Long Island, New York, on this date
back in 1938. The hurricane tracked north at over 50 mph bringing a
tremendous storm surge up through Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island which
caused massive flooding in Providence. The hurricane caused widespread
damage and killed over 600 people.
